The Oldenburg is a breed that originates in northern Germany. Oldenburg horses are most popular for use today in the sports of dressage and show jumping.

The Oldenburg have several different types within the breed. Nevertheless all Oldenburg breeding stock are chosen for their athletic ability, calm temperament, and strength. They are bred specifically for use as sport horses that excel both in show jumping and dressage. The Oldenburg should have a sloping shoulder, long neck, and strong hindquarters. The Oldenburg breed comes in a variety of colors with black, bay and brown being the most common. The horses are usually 16.1-17.2 hh high. They may not be noted for speed and have high knee-action from their days as carriage-horses but this does not detract from their abilities as showjumpers.
